Why Cold Stage is unscripted
You get a topic, a moment to think, and the floor. No script. That is the whole design.
Most speaking practice lets you prepare. Write your talking points, rehearse, record, re-record. That is useful if you are giving a talk next week. It does nothing for the moment you are actually afraid of, which is the one where someone turns to you in a meeting and says, what do you think?
Cold Stage is built for that moment. A topic card is dealt, and you can reshuffle for a new one. You get a short moment to prepare. Then you are on. You can record audio only, or video if you want to watch yourself back. The video stays on your phone.
Why no script
A script trains you to deliver something you have already thought. The skill we care about is thinking while you speak: finding the point, the example and the shape in real time. If you can prepare the words, you are practising reading. The prep is enough to choose a direction and not enough to write it down, and that is on purpose.
It is also why the topic is not yours to choose. It comes from your domains and, on a program day, is filtered for the thinking style you are training. You will get topics you have never thought about. That is the point. Mental models exist precisely for a topic you have never seen.
Why this rep matters more than the others
Drills sharpen one thing at a time. Cold Stage asks for everything at once, so it is the rep we trust to tell you where you are. Your Now score comes from your recent Cold Stages, compared with your baseline. Progress on a thinking style is earned on the Cold Stage too.
What you get back
The report has two sides. Thinking shows the style you were asked for and the one that came out, then tiles for structure, mental model, depth, examples, conciseness and style. Delivery covers conviction, pace, energy, articulation, pauses and fillers. Each tile opens to what it measures, the evidence from what you said, and one fix. Your transcript shows the fillers highlighted.
And you can hear it back. The recording stays on your phone for as long as you choose.
Why it gets easier
The first few Cold Stages feel exposed. That is normal, and it is also the thing that changes fastest. The pressure does not go away. You just stop being surprised by it.
The moment you are training for has no script, so the rep that measures you has none either.
