Blog Challenge a friend

Why Challenge a friend uses the exact same prompt and the exact same clock

A comparison is only fair if both people faced the same thing. So we freeze the round and send it whole.

Challenge a friend is there to make practice less lonely. Speaking drills are something you do alone with your phone, and it helps to have someone to compare notes with.

The obvious version would be to send your friend the same drill with a fresh prompt. We did not do that. A score only means something next to another score if both people faced the same thing. Two unrelated concepts can be easy to bridge or nearly impossible. A seed word can open up or close down. If your friend gets a different prompt, you are not comparing thinking. You are comparing luck.

What gets frozen

When you send a challenge, the round is frozen on it. For Concept Bridge, it is the pair. For Word Association, the seed word. For Don’t Say It, the topic and its banned words. For Hot Seat, the question. The clock is frozen too, so your friend gets the same time you had.

Why only the fast drills

You can challenge on the four System 1 drills: Word Association, Don’t Say It, Concept Bridge and Hot Seat. They are short, they need no setup, and they are fun to lose.

What your friend sees

Your friend opens the link in a browser. There is no app to install. They play the same round, and to see their score they make an account and agree to their answer being processed by AI, which is required before anything is scored. Their audio is deleted once it is scored, and you can close the challenge whenever you like.

The result shows the drill’s own measures side by side, with a note that it is how that one round scored, not how either of you usually does. Their report can be rated like every report in the app.

What travels, and what does not

Only the ideas from that one rep go with the link. The rest of your thinking map never travels in words. And your card comes back to your Home when they play, with both scores and the option to challenge them back.

The takeaway

Same prompt, same clock, or it is not a comparison. The round is frozen and sent whole.

One rep a day. Not an hour.

A short daily program that adapts to how your recent reps went.
